Hitzlsperger Handed Armband - 11 August 2010

"Thomas was very disappointed about not being called up for the World Cup, but his current frame of mind is good," Germany manager Joachim Löw said."His transfer back to England has lifted him again and he seems very relaxed, agile and has made a very fit impression.Hitzlsperger has always needed a lot of match practice and then he has always been able to impress. His prospects have improved."
On resting players:
"We know that this date is not really ideal for the club, but we are happy to be able to give some players who were not with us in South Africa a chance," Loew said."In that respect it is a welcome thing that we can rest several established names, both for the Bundesliga and for the national team, since there were many injuries during the first half of the 2006 season due to the short recovery phase after the World Cup."

Joachim Löw to spare World Cup Stars Denmark Call Up - 5 Aug 2010
"It was clear to us from the beginning that we would have to do without established names after the World Cup. We are aware of our responsibility towards the form and the health of our national-team players.Particularly given the high strains placed on them at the World Cup, it is therefore important now for them to concentrate on their club football in preparation for the new season."However, Löw rejects the idea that he has named a reserve team for the first match since beating Uruguay in the third-place play-off at the World Cup.
He said: "It was decisive for us that we nominated players who we had been observing before the World Cup and who had been able to put themselves in contention for selection with their good performances."from - 6 Aug 2010
