Mario Gomez strikes twice against Switzerland
Germany Crush Euro Co-Hosts Switzerland 4-0

"I think the side deserved their victory," Löw said. "I am also quite sure that the Swiss will be a very different side at the finals," he added.
Germany put four past hapless Swiss
"By and large I'm satisfied," said Löw.
"We played well from the start and were well-organised. It was clear that we wanted to play more aggressively and more intensively than we did against Austria.Every time Lukas (Podolski) has come on he's done well and Gomez showed how dangerous he is in the second half. I'm glad we've got so many options for Euro 2008."
Gomez bags brace

Interviewed on the DFB website after the game, Jogi said the side had shown a much improved effort after the disappointing showing in Austria, and praised their showing in front of goal, despite a difficult playing surface. He praised double goalscorer Mario Gomez saying he showed no nerves in front of goal. Lukas Podolski was also commended as a outstanding and very dangerous offensive player whenever he is on the move. He said goal-keeper Jens Lehmann was 'always in control', but added that the team still had plenty to do and must continue to grow and mature. Full interview on dfb.de

Training, 24 March 2008

Press Conference, Hotel Ramada Plaza, Basel, 24 March 2008

(On Robert Huth's withdrawal through injury)  "Our doctors looked at him and decided he couldn't play," Löw told a news conference on Monday. "It's not a long-term injury though. He looks like he will be out for around ten to 15 days."
Löw has said that Wednesday's match will be Germany's last before he unveils his final Euro 2008 squad on May 16."Huth's chances are still intact though. We have analysed his recent games in England and seen some very good defensive performances, even against strong opponents like Arsenal. I have explained to him that door is not closed and we will see how he gets on over the next few weeks."
Löw has not called up any replacement for Huth and said he would instead rely on either Arne Friedrich or Heiko Westermann to partner Per Mertesacker in central defence."Westermann is a trained central defender even if he is playing wide for Schalke at the moment. I don't have any concerns about the defence," Löw said.
(On football in Switzerland)"Switzerland have made huge progress in the last ten to 15 years and I was already impressed by the professionalism of their association in the 1990s," said Löw who began his coaching career with Swiss side Frauenfeld."When you look at the clubs their players are playing for, you can see that we'll be up against an international squad of Swiss citizens. They'll be playing all their group games here in Basel, and possibly even the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
They'll have the chance to build up a great atmosphere here and I'm convinced they should be among the favourites, because somebody is going to have to come here and beat them on their own ground." - from uk.reuters.com - 24 March 2008

Löw gratuliert dem SFV zu "klugem Entscheid"
This Swiss article talks of Jogi's connections to Switzerland at the start of his coaching career and speaks of the footballing history between the countries over the years. Jogi says he expects an incredibly intense game, even if points are not at stake. - 24 March 2008

An imminent tournament always means new advertisements and endorsements, and here are a couple that were introduced this month:

The new Mercedes-Benz advertisement "Gemeinsam zum Titel", starring Jogi, Oliver Bierhoff and the German national team, will run from April in both movie theatres and on TV stations. The advert symbolically shows the team successfully conquering an Alpine mountain landscape. - 24 March 2008.
