"It is disappointing that we allowed the lead to slip from our hands, you could clearly see the hard work from the training camp was missing," said Germany coach Joachim Löw whose squad spent last week training in the Spanish island of Majorca."In twelve days, all the players will be in much better form, I can promise you that."
"Of course, that result gives us food for thought," added Löw."The decision of who to leave out will be difficult, we will work hard again in Majorca. We have 26 good players in the squad and those who don't make it are not wanting for talent."

Post-match Final Euro 2008 Squad Selection

Löw cuts trio from German Euro 2008 squad - 28 May 2008
Germany head coach Joachim Loew on Wednesday dropped striker Patrick Helmes plus midfielders Jermaine Jones and teenager Marko Marin from his final Euro 2008 squad.

"The decision made by our coaching team was a very difficult one," said Löw. "It was a millimetre decision, because every one of the three players earned their place in the Euro 2008 squad. The decision was especially hard as all three did well in the trainingcamp and will have a role to play in the national team after the tournament."
Löw singled out talented teenager Marin who had been promoted to the senior team after shining for Germany's Under-21 side. "Marko Marin is a player of huge talent who has a huge future, he has improved in the last week alone, I am sure we will hear of him in the future," said Löw.

Mallorca Training Camp

Löw ready to hit the heights for Germany - 22 May 2008

Löw turns to basketball to improve defence at Euro 2008 - 21 May 2008

"I've always been impressed by the defensive skills of basketball players," Löw told a news conference from Majorca that was broadcast live on German television."We've brought along a former Germany basketball international, Denis Wucherer, as our basketball trainer to improve our defensive skills. We're not trying to re-invent football, but I think a bit of basketball practice is a great enrichment for us."
"I think there is too much fouling going on in German soccer," said Löw. "Our goal is to be able to force the opponent to the side without constantly bumping into them."
