Euro 2012 Qualifying Campaign Index

AZERBAIJAN 1 - 3 GERMANY

Tuesday 7 June 2011

Baku
Euro 2012 Group A qualifier

"Compliments to the team, I'm really proud of them. They have totally earned their holiday."

Goalscorers:
Azerbaijan - Murad Hüseynov 89'
Germany - Mesut Özil 30', Mario Gomez 41', Andre Schürrle 90+2'

"98% qualified ....."

Germany finish the season virtuallly assured of winning Group A and securing an automatic place in Euro 2012. They will win the Group next matchday (2 September) if either they beat Austria or if Turkey fail to beat Kazakhstan. Only Turkey are in a position to them at the top of the Group!

Löw: I can fill every position twice

"I hope that it will be difficult to select the team," he added, suggesting that experimentation with young players could take place during the remaining qualifiers."I can try to see, for example, in Turkey or against Belgium and Austria, how the young players cope in a competitive match. We had a young team at the World Cup, but now we have more young players, and the goal is to continue like this."
"I have many alternatives, the availability of good players is much greater than when I took office. Now we can fill every position twice."

Gomez, Özil strike as Germany goes 10 points clear
"I must pay the team a big compliment, I think we have put in a great season," said Löw, who enjoyed his 47th win from 68 international as coach.
"After all, it is 24 days since the end of the German league season and the players are at their limits. Azerbaijan defended well, so ultimately, I'm very satisfied."

Perfect but ailing Germany faces Azerbaijan in Euro 2012 qualifier

"If we have 21 points at the end of the day, who is going to come ahead of us?," Loew asked rhetorically."I believe the players can do their job in Azerbaijan. We have to mobilize all our forces while we are at the end of the season," said Loew, whose side is one of three - alongside Spain and the Netherlands - to have perfect records in qualifying. Turkey lost there and they (Azerbaijan) don't usually concede too many goals."
Löw relaxed despite mounting injuries - 6 June 2011
"Since we met up, eight players have now dropped out with injury," he said.
"The situation as it is doesn't concern me, I think we are in a decent position to play this game, even under these circumstances. "Both players (Holtby and Rudy) have been on our radar for a while and they are midfielders, where we have most of our problems."
"We must pull out all the stops and lift ourselves again after a long journey," said Löw. "Then we can go into a well-deserved vacation with 21 points."
"The players have mainly being doing regeneration work since Friday," he said. "The batteries can't recharge anymore, you can see they aren't as resilient in training."

Live Ticker from the Press Conference

Germany's Khedira and Rolfes ruled out of Euro Qualifer

"Yesterday afternoon we decided not to count on Sami Khedira because he did everything possible in the past two to three weeks to play against Austria," Löw told reporters in Vienna on Sunday ahead of their departure.
"There is no problem and the injured muscle is fine but we do not want to take a risk and decided it would be better if he did not play."
Depleted Germany visit Azerbaijan
(On the call-up of Lewis Holtby and Sebastian Rudy to the squad)  "They can both play there (in defensive midfield)," Löw said.
Löw is upbeat that forward Lukas Podolski will recover in time from an ankle knock to play."I believe that Lukas will be able to play against Azerbaijan," he said.
Löw urged a final effort ahead of the summer holidays although he conceded that the players were exhausted after a long season."The team must gather all its strength one more time," said the coach. "Azerbaijan will run and fight. We have to overcome some problems but we will solve them."
Three men attack Vogts
"This is a no-go. To attack a coach is unacceptable whatever the outcome of a match. I am surprised to hear the news," Germany coach Joachim Löw told reporters in Vienna as the team prepared to leave for Azerbaijan following their 2-1 win against Austria on Friday.
Azerbaijan may have lost against Kazakhstan but they have, for example, won a crucial game against Turkey and that shows their development that is strongly linked to Berti Vogts. So this really is a surprise."
