Germany coach Joachim Löw called it "a lucky victory" for his team.
"We did not show our usual class. Otherwise, Austria would have had more troubles," Loew said. "Austria fought hard for its last chance. In the end, the three points are the only thing that matters to us."
Löw said last year's World Cup in South Africa has begun to take its toll on his tired players. Germany still has a qualifier to play before the summer break against Azerbaijan in Baku on Tuesday."I have to compliment my team," Löw said. "Many players who were at the World Cup are really near the limits of their strengths now after a heavy season."
Germany sneak past Austria in Euro qualifier
"In all parts of the team we were not self-assured, not fast, not dynamic, and not precise," he said after the game. "It must be said that we are happy we won," he admitted before complimenting his opponents, "Austria fought passionately."
Responding to his team's performance, Löw offered a possible explanation."I have a feeling that our World Cup participants are at their physical limits at the end of the season." from goal com.
Löw pleased with away win
"I am delighted that we won the match," Loew said. "It's good to come to Austria and get the three points even when we haven't played so well.""Some players were clearly at the limit of their strengths - we made mistakes that could have been avoided.""Austria brought everything to this game. They were good and fought hard, and perceived this match as their last chance.""I am happy because it was fortunate, but also proud because the players wanted to win this game."

Germany expecting slugfest in Vienna - 2 June 2011
"After two defeats, Austria is like a wounded boxer," Löw told a press conference at the Ernst-Happel stadium on the eve of the match.
"They're going to throw everything into this game and we're going to stand up against that. So I don't expect any great football moments but a heated, intensive slugfest. The Austrians' motivation could not be greater. Without a top performance on our part, it's going to be hard,"
