February 2018

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOGI - 58 YEARS YOUNG on 3 February 2018 !!

Added to our birthday congratulations were those from Nivea (right) pointing out that it was also Male Grooming Day in Germany (surely not a coincidence!), and who marked the occasion by looking back on Jogi's 1997 DFB-Pokal triumph with Stuttgart.

Bundesliga Match Day 22

During the match between Bayern Munich and Schalke, Joachim Löw was interviewed at half-time on Sky Deutschland. After several weeks of varying 'rumours' flying around social media 'linking' Jogi with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Arsenal, and the usual snowballing effect such rumours have, Jogi finally got to have his say, specifically referring to the question of the current Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, and told the interviewer he was not at this stage concerning himself on what was happening after the World Cup.

Joachim Löw spricht über Nachfolge von Jupp Heynckes beim FC Bayern, Manuel Neuer und Ulreich - 10 February 2018

Germany's Joachim Löw avoids speculation over Bayern Munich future
Germany coach Joachim Löw has remained coy on his future amid links to Bayern Munich.
The 58-year-old has been named in recent weeks as a potential candidate to replace Jupp Heynckes, who returned to Bayern in October as a caretaker until the end of the season.
Heynckes' impressive record at the Allianz Arena has left Bayern's hierarchy hoping he might commit himself to the Bundesliga champions for another season. However, the 72-year-old Heynckes has been clear about his plans to return to retirement after the end of the season.
Löw joins a long list of possible Bayern coaches, with former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, Frankfurt's Niko Kovac and RB Leipzig's Ralph Hasenhuttl all among those considered to be in contention.
Speaking to Sky during Saturday's game between Bayern Munich and Schalke, Löw remained coy on his future.
"I am under contract at the DFB until 2020," Low said. "My focus is on the World Cup now. I don't think about what will be after that."
Low, who has led Germany since 2006, also praised Heynckes, who missed Saturday's match with a cold.
"Jupp does a sensational job," Low said. "Bayern, like many fans in Germany, surely want him to continue."

On Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich: "He has been playing very well in recent months. He is very solid in 1-on-1s and has improved as a player at Bayern. He's in our thoughts for the World Cup." - translation thanks to FC Bayern English

And on Manuel Neuer's injury he replied:
"I phoned him this week to enquire. He is in good shape. He hopes to start training soon. I assume everything is okay. Of course he is incredibly important to our team. He is the best."

Jogi was also asked in Munch if he asked Uli Hoeneß if he was successful in his negotiations to prolong Jupp Heynckrs' contract:"I did not dare to ask." he replied!

Bayern Munich won 2-1 thanks to goals from Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski.

After eight years with the DFB, Yann-Benjamin Kugel has left his position as the national team's fitness coach. Kugel will not be a member of the World champions' support staff at the international fixtures against Spain and Brazil in March.
